The Spanish property Market

Is Spain a good investment? There has been a lot of speculation recently as to the current and future trends of the Spanish property market. Here are a few selected articles concerning this important question from a cross section of press analysts that have recently written on this subject. Links to the articles have been provided so that you can read the articles in their full context and make up your own mind as to the validity of the views expressed.

I'm sure you have all read or seen on the television many reports as to the current down trend in price increases here in Spain.  There is absolutely no doubt that the market has noticeably slowed in the last twelve months and in some areas prices may indeed have fallen slightly. However the official Spanish Housing Index shows that over the last twelve months overall prices have risen by 2.5% despite the difficult publicity! So is all the talk to be believed or simply scare mongering? The answer is of course is that no one actually knows and even the experts differ to exactly what will happen. My view as someone living and working within the market here in Spain is that prices will not fall sharply but will stabilise at their present levels with perhaps a small percentage drop in the short term.  To complicate matters even more, the U.K. housing market is now, according to many respected sources, also in danger of  taking a downturn and prices may actually drop in certain areas of the country. This means that those looking to relocate and start a new life here in Andalucia will have to juggle both property markets as to the best timing for selling in the U.K. and purchasing your new home here in Spain. The danger is of course that prices will fall in the U.K. and hold firm here in Spain, which in real terms will make your new home in Spain more expensive and possibly out of your reach!

Finally at present for the first time in a decade we have a buyers market here in Southern Spain and in many ways now is a good time for a long-term investment in Spanish property.  We hope you find the information and articles of interest and informative.
